With a large number of the population having access to social media, there are many things to watch out for: trolls, spam mail, disturbing posts, even your boss. If you think having a social media account is overwhelming and stressful, owning various one would be as easy as pie if you followed these tips:

1. Be original

It’s hard to gain followers in your social media account if you were a copycat of something else. Being original would make people be interested in you, and your posts would feel more genuine. Can’t think of an original idea? Try being yourself. Being authentic never fails to call people’s attention, especially when it comes to their own interests. So, don’t be ashamed of what you like. Talk your favorite movies in Facebook, tweet about your favorite soccer team in Twitter, post pictures of puppies in Instagram. There’s no harm in trying, so why not be yourself?

A consistent person would be more credible in the world of circulating issues. Having one voice would make you more believable than a person who says they love Chloe Grace Moretz today and say they hate her tomorrow. Being consistent would also give people an idea of what area your interests are in.

3. Be sensitive

There are a lot of sensitive people in the internet, and it is nearly impossible to post about something without offending a person. Being respectful will make you not only a responsible netizen, but also a likeable person. Though they may not give out a response, your audience may have seen it. Always remember to think before you click!

Social media is inefficient if people don’t take advantage of the social part of it. Don’t forget to share, retweet, like, favorite, comment, reblog, etc. your favorite posts in social media. This will make your audience feel heard and accepted. Isn’t that something you would want to feel, as well?

5. Be entertaining

People are uninterested with dull, daily experiences, and they would be even more uninterested if they would see a rant about your favorite scented candles. Depressing news, boring information, and pointless stories are turn offs for your friends when they go online; they go here to enjoy, connect, and have fun, so don’t ruin it for them. Memes are go around pretty quickly, so don’t be afraid to put some in your Facebook wall. Aside from memes, inspirational and motivational stories also go viral, so sharing these would be something that people would appreciate.

6. Don’t be inappropriate

Whenever adding to your collection of revealing selfies on Instagram, think if this would be something that your family would be pleased about. Aside from sex, other things that would be counted as inappropriate would be politics, drugs, and religion. Remember that everything that you post about you would stay there forever, so be mindful when you do this. The things that you put in your profile are also indications of who you are, that’s why inappropriate content is often found questionable in a person’s feed.

Spam mail, as well as non-stop posting, is annoying. This would make your messages seem pointless, watered-down, and oftentimes, unnecessary. If you want people to listen to you whenever you advertise yourself, it is best to post at least twice a day, not to the point of filling up a person’s feed of just yourself and your subjective opinions.

8. Don’t plagiarize

Plagiarism is a major no-no, whether it be virtual or not. If you want to show your friends a meme that has made you laugh, and you just saw it randomly in your wall, always remember to put a link of the source or creator of the meme. In this way, you are giving credits to the owner of the meme and everyone is happy.

Following everyone in your social media platform is just plain confusing and would leave you overwhelmed with the wide array of content. Only follow people you know and accounts that interest you. This would give you a satisfying feed to look at and make you more relatable to your followers.

10. Ignore the haters

Haters gonna hate, y’all. Leave them be and keep doing your thing.

Have fun and enjoy your social media experience!
